Summary: As of 1997 collection consists of records of the New Mexico Parks and Recreation Division and its predecessors the State Park Commission and the State Park and Recreation Commission (1939-1980). Includes annual reports from various years between 1959 and 1978, newsletters for various years between 1971 and 1980, pamphlets, policy manuals, laws and regulations, and reports and planning documents on state parks. Also within the collection are extensive documents concerning the establishment of a state monument at Fort Selden, and a 1939 progress report on plans for New Mexico parks and recreation areas.

The State Park Commission was established by a legislative act in 1935 (1935 Laws of N.M., Chp. 57, Sec. 1). In 1963 the Commission changed its name to State Park and Recreation Commission.
